BuildContext in flutter

What is BuildContext?

In Flutter, BuildContext is a core concept that plays a crucial role in widget management by providing access to widget tree information.

Moreover, BuildContext is an abstract class that represents the location of a widget within the widget tree.

It enables interaction with the tree, allowing you to retrieve details about a widget’s position, its parent widgets, and even inherited widgets that pass data down the tree.

How does this Work?

As we know, everything in Flutter is a widget. These widgets are organized in a tree-like structure, with access to a BuildContext, allowing interaction with their surroundings in the widget tree.

When you pass BuildContext to various widget methods or custom widgets, you are essentially connecting them to the widget hierarchy and letting them know where they sit in the widget tree.

Where do we use BuildContext?

BuildContext is an essential part of Flutter and is used in various scenarios like building widgets, data accessing, navigation, animation etc…

Here are some commonly used scenarios, where we use the Buildcontext in our Application.

1. Building Widgets

Every Flutter widget method receives a BuildContext as a parameter. This buildContext represents the respective widget’s position within the widget tree.

2. Accessing Inherited Widgets

BuildContext allows widgets to retrieve data from inherited widgets higher up in the widget tree. This includes accessing themes, media queries, and other shared data.

3. Navigation

BuildContext also works with the Navigator widget for navigation between screens, pushing one view over another

Or Poping the current view.

4. Displaying Overlays

BuildContext is also mandatory for using Display overlays like:-
